You are invited to become involved with making Harrison School for the Arts the premiere school of choice in our nation.

Our mission is to galvanize community resources to help all Harrison School for the Arts students succeed in school and become productive members of society.  The support that you could offer takes many shapes, including program management, program support, and additional resources offered to the students, teachers and administrators of the Harrison.

Connect with students and join other businesses and agencies to:
•celebrate the quality education students receive at Harrison,
•showcase student talent, and
•encourage more involvement from our diverse community.

Harrison School for the Arts believes that community support enhances the educational experiences of all our students.

Schools, parents, and the community can work together to promote the health, well-being and learning of all Harrison students.  When Harrison actively involves parents and engages community resources, we are able to respond more effectively to the needs of our students.

Family and community involvement fosters partnerships among schools, families, community groups and individuals.  These partnerships result in sharing and maximizing resources.  In addition, they help students develop healthy behaviors and promote healthy families.

Research shows that schools with community partnerships have students who are more likely to:
•Earn higher grades and test scores,
•Complete homework more consistently,
•Attend school more regularly,
•Have better social skills,
•Show improved behavior,
•Adapt well to school,
•Have higher self-esteem,
•Have better relationships with their parents, and
•Graduate and go on to college.
Additionally, linking community activities to the classroom:
•Positively impacts academic achievement,
•Reduces school suspension rates, and
•Improves school-related behaviors.

Harrison School for the Arts believes that all have a responsibility to educate students, not just the teachers and staff in schools. Parents, businesses, social service agencies, and community colleges/universities all play a vital role in this effort.

Here are the indicators that demonstrate community involvement at Harrison School for the Arts:
•Parents and community members have an active voice and involvement in the school improvement process.
•Staff understands the importance of parent and community involvement in the school and creates opportunities for their involvement.
•Staff creates and uses business partnerships to expand the curricula.
•Parents are assisted with understanding child and adolescent development and child-rearing skills.
•Parents and community members are recruited, trained, and provided a variety of volunteer activities.
•There is frequent and ongoing communication using a variety of means (e.g., newsletters, meetings, conferences, electronic).
•Diverse opportunities exist for parent involvement (e.g., committees, volunteering, monitoring homework).
•A high degree of parent participation and involvement are noted at open houses,
•PTA events, and other school activities.
